About the event
Johnson City Arts Center and Shellshead Ballet Conservatory are once again partnering to host a dance workshop to learn the basics of classical ballet partnering.
Students in JCAC's pointe 6 and 7 classes are invited; Shellshead students will be personally invited. Dancers are encouraged to bring someone to partner with (brother, friend, boyfriend, dad, etc.), but not having a partner does not exclude you from participating! We will cover the basics of partnering, including safety information, different hand holds, balances, promenades, and basic partnered lifts.
For the safety of all participants, male partners should be able to do a 30-second plank with proper form, lift at least 50 lbs, and be free of back, knee, hip, or shoulder pain. Safety is our number one priority, so feel free to reach out before or during the event with concerns or questions. Male partners should wear clothes they are comfortable moving and sweating in. If you do not have dance shoes, close-toed sneakers are acceptable.
Male partners who are interested in a role in Johnson City Arts Center's fall productions of God With Us or Clara's Tea may stay an additional 15 minutes after the class for a short audition.
No participants should wear necklaces, bracelets, rings, or any other jewelry or accessories that may snag or cause a hazard.
Dancers en pointe are expected to attend a full Saturday morning class before attending this workshop. A class will be hosted at Shellshead Ballet Conservatory, 8:30-10:00. Dancers should have hair in a proper ballet bun, wear a leotard with a closed back, tights, pointe shoes, and an optional short ballet skirt and/or close-fitting bike shorts. Wearing improper clothing will exclude a dancer from participation.
The cost of this workshop is $5 for individuals or $7 for a pair of partners. This can be paid at the front desk upon arrival via cash or card. All participants must register. Register here: https://forms.gle/szjP7xie49yA3Jwx7
